Author Guidelines

SMARTH: Journal of Mathematics Education and Learning accepts scholarly manuscripts in the form of original research articles and conceptual articles that are relevant to the journal’s focus and scope. All submissions must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration for publication in any other journal or publication outlet.

All submitted manuscripts undergo an initial desk evaluation by the Editorial Team to assess their relevance to the journal’s scope, academic quality, compliance with author guidelines, and adherence to publication ethics. Manuscripts that meet the initial requirements will proceed to the Double-Blind Peer Review process, in which the identities of authors and reviewers remain confidential throughout the review process.

Before Submission

Authors are required to ensure that:

The manuscript is relevant to the focus and scope of SMARTH: Journal of Mathematics Education and Learning.
The manuscript is original and free from plagiarism, data fabrication, falsification, and other forms of publication misconduct.
The manuscript has not been previously published and is not under consideration by another journal.
All authors have approved the final version of the manuscript and agreed to its submission to the journal.
All data, figures, tables, illustrations, and copyrighted materials used in the manuscript have obtained the necessary permissions, where applicable.
Research involving human participants or animals has obtained ethical approval from the appropriate ethics committee, where required.
All sources have been properly cited and included in the reference list.

Manuscript Standards

To be considered for further processing, manuscripts should meet the following requirements:

Make a clear scholarly contribution to the development of mathematics education and learning.
Employ appropriate and scientifically sound research methods.
Present a systematic structure with clear, logical, and well-supported arguments.
Have a concise and specific title that accurately reflects the content of the manuscript.
Provide an informative and concise abstract that clearly presents the research objectives, methods, results, and conclusions.
Use current and relevant primary references, with the majority preferably drawn from reputable scholarly journal articles published within the last 10 years.
Follow the journal’s prescribed template and manuscript formatting requirements.

Desk Rejection

The Editor reserves the right to reject a manuscript at the desk evaluation stage without sending it for peer review if the manuscript:

Falls outside the journal’s focus and scope.
Does not comply with the prescribed template or author guidelines.
Does not meet the journal’s expected academic or methodological standards.
Exceeds the journal’s allowable similarity threshold.
Shows indications of plagiarism or other forms of publication misconduct.

Manuscript Submission

All manuscripts must be submitted online through the Open Journal Systems (OJS) by completing all article metadata accurately, including author names, affiliations, ORCID (if available), abstract, keywords, and references.

Authors are strongly encouraged to read and follow the Article Template and Author Guidelines before submitting a manuscript to ensure an efficient editorial process.

Submission Preparation Checklist

Before proceeding with the manuscript submission, authors must ensure that all of the following requirements have been fulfilled:

The manuscript is relevant to the focus and scope of SMARTH: Journal of Mathematics Education and Learning and complies with the requirements stated in the Author Guidelines and Article Template.
The manuscript is original, has not been previously published, and is not under consideration or publication elsewhere.
All authors have read and approved the manuscript and agreed to its submission to SMARTH: Journal of Mathematics Education and Learning.
All references have been checked for accuracy, consistency, and completeness and follow the citation style required by the journal.
Tables, figures, graphs, and illustrations are properly numbered, titled, and cited within the manuscript.
All copyrighted materials, including figures, photographs, research instruments, datasets, or other materials used in the manuscript, have obtained the necessary permissions where applicable.
Research involving human participants or animals, where applicable, has obtained Ethical Approval from the appropriate ethics committee and the approval is properly stated in the manuscript.
The manuscript has been checked for similarity and is free from plagiarism and other forms of publication misconduct.
Article metadata (title, abstract, keywords, author information, affiliations, email addresses, and ORCID, if available) has been completed accurately in the OJS system.
Authors understand that all manuscripts will undergo desk evaluation, double-blind peer review, and assessment in accordance with the journal's editorial policies and publication ethics.

Copyright for articles published in this journal is retained by the authors.
Authors grant SMARTH the right of first publication with the work simultaneously licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA 4.0) that allows others to share, adapt, and build upon the work for any purpose, provided that appropriate credit is given to the authors and the journal, and that any derivative works are licensed under the same terms.
Authors are permitted to enter into separate, additional contractual arrangements for the non-exclusive distribution of the published version of the work (e.g., post it to an institutional repository or publish it in a book), with an acknowledgement of its initial publication in this journal.
Authors are encouraged to share their work online (e.g., in institutional repositories, personal websites, or academic networking platforms) prior to and during the submission process, as it can lead to productive exchanges and greater citation of published work.
