SMARTH: Journal of Mathematics Education and Learning recognizes that Generative Artificial Intelligence (Generative AI) can support scholarly writing and research activities when used responsibly. The journal encourages the ethical, transparent, and accountable use of AI while maintaining academic integrity, research ethics, and international publishing standards. Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of all submitted work.

The use of AI tools does not transfer responsibility from the authors. All interpretations, analyses, conclusions, citations, and research findings must be verified and approved by the authors before submission.

Use of AI by Authors

• AI may be used for grammar checking, language editing, translation, and improving manuscript readability.
• AI may assist in literature exploration or drafting, but it must not replace the authors' scientific judgment or critical analysis.
• Authors must carefully verify all AI-generated content before inclusion in the manuscript.
• Authors are responsible for ensuring that AI-generated content is accurate, unbiased, and free from copyright infringement.
• Significant use of AI must be transparently disclosed within the manuscript.

Disclosure of AI Use

Authors should disclose the AI tools used, their purpose, and the extent of their contribution. This information may be included in the Methods, Acknowledgements, or another appropriate section of the manuscript.

Authorship

• AI systems cannot be listed as authors or co-authors.
• Only individuals who satisfy accepted authorship criteria may be listed as authors.
• Authors retain full accountability for every part of the published work.

Research Data, Images, and AI-Generated Content

• Research data must not be fabricated, falsified, or manipulated using AI.
• AI-generated or AI-edited images, figures, or graphical content must be clearly disclosed when permitted.
• Visual manipulation that could mislead readers or alter scientific meaning is prohibited.
• The Editorial Office may request supporting information regarding AI use at any stage of the review process.

Use of AI by Reviewers and Editors

• Reviewers and editors must preserve the confidentiality of all submitted manuscripts.
• Confidential manuscripts or associated data must not be uploaded to public AI services.
• Any use of AI by reviewers or editors must comply with confidentiality, publication ethics, and editorial integrity.
• Editorial decisions must always be made by human editors and cannot be delegated to AI systems.

Compliance with Publication Ethics

This policy is informed by recommendations from the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and current best practices in scholarly publishing. Violations of this policy may result in manuscript rejection, revision requests, publication corrections, retractions, or other editorial actions deemed appropriate.
